Why Rochester? We’ll Tell You.

This week, iVEDiX had the honor of being interviewed by WROC for their “Why ROC?” segment. Digital Rochester was integral in getting us in front of the camera, and the Greater Rochester Enterprise set the whole thing up. Thanks guys! You can check the video out at: www.RochesterFirst.com

Raj Kutty, the founder, and CEO of iVEDiX, had some cool stuff to say about iVEDiX, our flagship mobile analytics offering. But he also had some interesting things to say about Rochester, NY, iVEDiX’s hometown and headquarters.  Also, he made a joke about the weather.

Rochester is a great place for a lot of reasons, not the least of which is the phenomenal atmosphere that values education.  Rochester is home to the University of Rochester, and the Rochester Institute of Technology, two nationally recognized schools that have a tremendous impact on the worlds of technology and business.

The UofR is known for its strong liberal arts program but is also one of the premier research institutions in the United States, particularly in the fields of optics, lasers, and biology.  In addition, the Simon School of Business is recognized the world over a top-notch institution that is ranked by some of the most discerning institutions.

The Rochester Institute of Technology is a similarly impressive university that is also highly ranked by various institutions, even though the Institute’s President, William Destler, is not 100% convinced those rankings are useful.  As it stands, however, RIT is just as lauded an institution as the U of R, with phenomenal programs in engineering, fine arts, and industrial design.

But it is not the college rankings that make Rochester the place that it is — it is the people those colleges help produce, and this is something iVEDiX cares heavily about.  iVEDiX understands that the best path to having a successful organization is an investment in people, and Rochester is a great place for that.  Not only do we have these terrific universities, we have a population of professionals who have worked in various industries and companies, many of them spanning different verticals.  Rochester, after all, is the hometown of Kodak, Xerox, and Bausch and Lomb. These companies thrived here because they had access to great talent. And likewise, iVEDiX knows that as companies change shape, the experienced men and women that helped them to grow are a tremendous resource.

Taken separately, Rochester offers a lot: great institutions, a young population that is hungry for innovation, a strong field of professionals with a lot of experience, and the quality of life that comes from living in Western New York. When these things are put together, however, an atmosphere of creativity, drive, and dedication springs to life. It is not an exaggeration to say that iVEDiX is only possible because of where it was born.

So that’s why we like Rochester. Also, it doesn’t hurt that The Dinosaur Barbecue is a great place to have lunch meetings.

Why do you think Rochester is a great place to run a company?
