What’s in a name?

the origin of the unique ivedix name
iVEDiX (eye-ved-ix)

The word “Veda” originates from Sanskrit, and the best translation to English would be the word “Knowledge.” Sanskrit — and the even older Vedic Sanskrit– are languages that have been found as far back as the 2nd millenium BC.  The Vedas are themselves ancient Indian texts, which make up the oldest collection of Sanskrit literature and the oldest scriptures of Hinduism.

The Vedas contained the collected knowledge of their writers, in areas from science to medicine to literature.  According to historical Vedic religion, they were divinely revealed, representing the combined knowledge of the human experience, the universe, and possibly even heaven itself. According to iVEDiX CEO, Rajesh Kutty, “Vedics were practitioners of veda in multiple forms be it science, math, language or governance.”

The vedics at iVEDiX are a group of practitioners — data gurus, statisticians, programmers, designers, creative types — who have embraced the simple yet expansive concept that knowledge attained naturally is just as important as knowledge obtained through study. This kind of learning serves in tandem with our collective history, our personal backgrounds, and our individual educations and experiences.

This is a lot to take in, we know! But at the risk of sounding grandiose, we believe every word of it.  You don’t have to believe in divinely-inspired documents in order to appreciate the iVEDiX approach.  We are all of us more than the sum of our educations and experiences.  We are constantly growing, innovating, and challenging ourselves.

As they say, knowledge is power. The Vedics at iVEDiX believe in the personalization of this power, and hence the “i”.  But collectively — think “i” plus “i” — we realize that the combined share of knowledge will always be more powerful than what is held by one person.  That’s why working together is not just a slogan at iVEDiX; instead, it informs the very principles we use to solve problems.

So like the vedics of old, we like to think of ourselves as producing knowledge for the ages.  Maybe that’s too tall of an order, sure. But you have to admit, when you’re dealing with the vast amounts of data that we see every day, you can’t help but feel like you’re in the middle of history.
